Troubleshoot and Reconnect Phone Battery Backup

Learn how to reconnect and power your phone battery backup to keep your GFiber Phone service running during an outage. Get step-by-step instructions for setup and troubleshooting sound alerts.

If you have a phone battery backup, it helps keep your GFiber Phone service running during a power outage. Your backup unit is usually set up by a GFiber technician. If you need to move it or reconnect it, follow the steps below.

Reconnect Your Phone Battery Backup

Tip: To keep your phone service running as long as possible during an outage, only connect these three devices to the Battery Backup outlets.

Before you begin, make sure your battery backup unit is in a well-ventilated area and plugged directly into a wall outlet. Do not use a power strip or extension cord.

  1. Connect the external battery: Plug the cable from the external battery pack into the back of the main unit and secure it.

  2. Power the unit: Connect the main unit’s power cord directly to a wall outlet.

  3. Connect your GFiber equipment: Plug the power cords for these devices into the outlets labeled Battery Backup on the back of the unit:

    • Fiber Jack

    • Router

    • GFiber Phone Box

  4. Turn on the battery backup : Press the On/Off button on the front of the unit.

Understand Sound Alerts

The battery backup may make different sounds to alert you to power or battery issues.

To mute a single alert, press and release the Mute button. 

To turn off all alarms, press and hold the Mute button for two seconds.

4 beeps every 30 secondsThe unit is running on battery power.No action needed. Keep non-essential devices unplugged to extend runtime.
Continuous beepingThe battery is low and power is almost gone.Prepare for a temporary loss of service.
Continuous toneThe unit is overloaded.Unplug non-essential devices from the Battery Backup outlets.
Short chirpsThe battery failed its health test.The battery needs to be replaced.

 

Troubleshoot Display and Icon Issues
