Manage LAN IP Addresses and DHCP Pools

Learn how your local network assigns data tracking configurations, adjust dynamic address ranges, or permanently lock localized network numbers to specific devices.

Hardware Eligibility: The advanced features detailed below are available for the Wi-Fi 6 Router, Wi-Fi 6E Router, Wi-Fi 7 Router, Multi-Gig Router, and original Network Box. If you use a Google Wifi or Nest Wifi Pro router, you must use the Google Home App to manage your advanced device IP properties.

LAN IPs, Subnet Masks, and DHCP Pools Overview

  • Router WAN IP Address: This is your router’s external public address assigned by GFiber to communicate with the global internet. This address cannot be manually configured.

  • Router LAN IP Address: This is your router's private, internal address inside your home (typically 192.168.1.1). It acts as the "Default Gateway" for your personal electronics.

  • Subnet Mask: This setting determines the size allocation of your local network and restricts which internal IP ranges can talk to each other safely.

  • DHCP Dynamic Address Range: The dynamic pool sets the exact starting and ending IP addresses that your router is allowed to automatically hand out to your smart home tech, phones, and computers.

Find and Configure Network IP Addresses

Use the GFiber Mobile App

Before you begin, download the GFiber App from the Google Play Store or the App Store.

  1. Locate your settings: Open the GFiber App and select the Network tab from the bottom menu.

  2. Navigate to addresses: Tap Network settings, Advanced network settings, Addresses.

  3. Adjust parameters: Update your internal LAN IPv4 address base, change your subnet mask, or tweak your DHCP range text fields.

  4. Save your changes: Tap Save to confirm.

  5. Critical final step: After hitting save, you must manually disconnect and reconnect your smartphones, laptops, and smart home hardware to your Wi-Fi network so they can pull a fresh IP address from your updated pool configuration.

Use the GFiber Web Portal

Use these steps if you own an original black hardware model managed via a web browser:

  • Network Box (Model GFRG200)

  • Network Box (Model GFRG210)

Before you begin, navigate to your GFiber Web Portal and sign in.
  1. Locate network settings: Click Network in the upper-left corner of the dashboard screen.

  2. Open advanced tools: Click Edit Network Settings, select Edit next to Advanced Network Settings, and click the Addresses tab.

  3. Review your system status: On this layout, you will clearly see your read-only external Router WAN IPv4 and WAN IPv6 addresses listed at the top.

  4. Modify configurations: Scroll down to modify any of your configurable local options, including the internal local gateway IP, subnet masking, or dynamic allocation ranges.

  5. Apply changes: Click Save when finished.

  6. Critical final step: Changing your dynamic address configurations immediately invalidates active device leases. You must manually disconnect and reconnect all computers, appliances, and devices previously linked to your Network Box to restore their internet connectivity.

Display Active DHCP Assignments

If you are tracking network devices or troubleshooting connections, you can view an active log of your dynamic IP addresses.

To view DHCP assignments:

  1. Sign in to your GFiber Account using the email and password associated with your GFiber account.

  2. Select Network at the top-left corner.

  3. In the settings pane, click Advanced, then click the DHCP tab.

  4. Review the data log. You can click any column title to sort the list (e.g., click IP Address to sort numerically).

The Expiry column details the current lifecycle state of each device assignment:

  • Time remaining: Displays the exact lease countdown in days, hours, minutes, and seconds.

  • Reserved: Indicated if the IP address has been locked permanently to that specific device.

  • Expired: Shown if the device lease has run out of time and is inactive.

Tip: You can click directly on any individual device name within this log to pull up deep diagnostic details about that specific hardware client.

Reserve a Static Local IP Address

Reserving an IP address for a device prevents your network from assigning that specific address to a different device. The reservation remains in effect until you manually cancel it or remove the device from your network altogether, even when you turn the device completely off.

Important: Reserving a device's IP address only applies internally to your localized GFiber network and does not alter the physical firmware settings of the device itself. You do not have to reserve a device's IP address when you configure port forwarding rules or configure a DMZ, though it is highly recommended for network stability.

To reserve an IP Address:

  1. Power on the device and ensure it is actively connected to your GFiber network.

  2. Navigate to the device's advanced options screen in your account.

  3. In the advanced settings for that selected device, set Reserved IP to On.

  4. Enter the unique local IP address you want to permanently lock to this device.

  5. Click Save. The Expiry status for that IP address will now show up as Reserved on your DHCP tab log.

To cancel an IP Address reservation:

  1. Access the device's advanced options layout.

  2. Set Reserved IP to Off.

  3. Click Save.

The IP address will return to the general pool of available dynamic addresses. However, the router will temporarily keep assigning the same IP address to the device via standard DHCP protocols until its lease cycle expires. On the DHCP log tab, the status will switch from Reserved back to an active expiration countdown time.
