Group Your Devices With the GFiber App

Learn how to organize your connected tech by creating device groups in the GFiber app. Grouping your devices makes it easy to pause internet access, set bedtime schedules, and manage family screen time all at once.

The features in this article are currently only supported if you have the GFiber Wi-Fi 6E Router (GR6EXX0C) or GFiber Wi-Fi 7 Router (GRBE331C). If you have a different router, you can still view basic device details, but you won’t be able to create custom groups.

You can group your devices (like phones, tablets, gaming systems, etc.) directly in the GFiber App. Device groups make it easy to sort and organize the devices that are connected to your network. They also allow you to apply settings (like pause schedules) to more than one device at a time.

In addition to the default device groups that show up automatically within the GFiber App, you also have the ability to create your own custom device groups and choose which devices you want to add to them. In this article, you’ll learn how to manage your default device groups and create new custom groups.

Default device groups

Primary Network

All devices currently connected to your main Wi-Fi network will be in the Primary Network group.

Paused Devices

Any devices that are paused will appear in the Paused Devices group.

Guest Network

To keep your Primary Network secure, you can create a Guest Network in the GFiber App. This will keep guest devices isolated from your Primary Network. You can assign a unique name and password to this network, and share it with visitors.

Even if you haven’t configured a Guest Network, you’ll still see the default group show up in the GFiber App. However, you’ll need to create a Guest Network to add devices to it.

Disconnected Devices

The Disconnected Devices group shows any devices that have been disconnected or blocked from your network that were previously connected to your network. You can see the last time a device was disconnected and identify blocked devices by their icons.

Your devices may disconnect when you leave your home, when you manually disconnect them, or when you power them down.

Devices that have been disconnected for eight days will automatically be removed from your Disconnected Devices group.

Custom device groups

With custom device groups, you have the option to organize your devices in any way that works for you. For example, you can group devices by type (kids’ devices, gaming consoles) or location (upstairs bedrooms, home office). You can also name your groups, choose their icons, and set pause schedules. Check out these tips and tricks for pausing device groups for more ideas about how to use your custom groups.

A device can be added to multiple groups simultaneously, and you can create up to 30 device groups.

To create your own custom device groups:

  1. Navigate to the Network tab. Scroll down and tap the Manage devices button.
  2. Tap the + icon at the top right-hand corner.
  3. Give your group a name and select an icon. Scroll through to see the full list of icons.
  4. Tap Next to add devices to the group.
  5. Select devices for your group by checking the box next to each device on the right side of the screen.
  6. Tap Save.
  7. Your new group will appear on the top of the screen — right after your Primary Network group, but before your other Default Devices groups. You can now manage the settings for all devices within this group.

Rename or edit a custom device group

  1. Navigate to the Network tab and tap the Manage devices button at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Tap the three dot icon in the top right corner of the device group card you’d like to rename or edit.
  3. The settings will appear. There are three options to choose from — Edit group details, Add/remove devices, and Delete group:

    1. Select Edit group details to change the name of the group or select a new icon. Then tap Update to make the changes.
    2. Select Add/remove devices to change the devices in your group. Use the checkboxes to select and unselect devices from your group. Tap Save.
    3. Select Delete group to remove the group from your app.
