Self-Install Kit vs. Professional Installation for Your Home

Learn the differences between a GFiber self-install kit and professional installation — including Fiber Jack requirements, what’s in each kit, setup timelines, and billing details.

Installation for business accounts works differently. See how professional installation works for business customers.

When you sign up for GFiber, you’ll choose how your equipment gets set up. Your options depend almost entirely on whether your home already has a Fiber Jack — the small wall outlet where your fiber network connects inside your home.

  • Professional installation is required if your home has never had GFiber before, or it’s missing a Fiber Jack. A technician will run fiber lines from the street and install the Fiber Jack inside your home.

  • Self install is an option if a Fiber Jack is already installed in your home, usually from a previous resident. Since the infrastructure is already in place, you can plug in your new equipment yourself.

Note on exterior work: Before your appointment, GFiber crew members may work on the outside of your property to connect your home to our network. This typically happens in the week leading up to your scheduled in-home installation appointment. Learn more about the installation process for new customers.
